Troubleshooting Tips

for Dish Network

You may have just returned from a long vacation and discovered some or most of your channels are missing. You should consider troubleshooting your Dish Network receiver first before calling the Dish Network provider. Here are some things you can do. First thing is to ensure that your receiver is getting signal from the dish. Tune to channel 101 and check if you are getting pictures. If you aren’t, you should see “progress 0 to 5” on your TV screen. Press “MENU” then“6” "1"and "1" on your receiver remote control to access the receiver’s "Point Dish" screen. Now tune the “Satellite” selection to 119 and then scroll through the transponder. You should start receiving a signal above 15 on various transponders with a green bar long the bottom (Some transponders will be 0 which is perfectly normal). If you are getting a reading of 0 or below 15 on all the transponders and you have a red or yellow bar, then the following is likely your problem. 1. It is possible your dish is not on the satellite. 2. Something may be blocking the dish. 3. Your receiver is disconnected from the cables or not properly connected or 4. Failure of your “LNB” amplifier; this can happen if they have spent a long period of years facing the weather elements outside.

Recheck all your connections

Check to see if the dish is loose or if cables have been disconnected. It is also likely that your dish position has been blown off satellite and something may now be blocking the position. Remove vegetation that may have grown around the dish in the summer. If you still fail to detect and rectify the problem, call your installer first, rather than the Dish Network..

Request for a “ReHit”

If you have a good signal and you get a picture on the 101 channel, it is most likely that your receiver was unable to receive its re-authorization signal which is usually every month.  In such scenario, you will have to contact the Dish Network provider and ask for a “ReHit” for your receiver. You have to make sure that they don’t send a technician over. You can troubleshoot yourself. Follow these steps: 1. First, ensure you have your current Dish Network account information before you. Make sure you know the address and phone number that the Dish Network has on file to be able to identify your account. If you don’t have this information. Then place a call to your installer. 2. Dial your technical support number if you have one and answer “No” when prompted to wait for a technician or fix the problem yourself. 3. Explain to the technician that you haven’t been around in a while and your receiver has been unplugged and you would need a “ReHit” to get your programming running again. Tell him/her that you have a good signal and have the Dish Network information on channel 101 If you recently added programming to your account or found out you are missing some channels that you would normally have, be aware that some Dish Network channels may be unavailable in all areas. Standard definition Dish Network programming can be seen on the 119° satellite on the West coast, with some programming on the 110° satellite. High definition channels are mostly found on the 29° channels. For information about prices and programming visit Dish Network Reviews online.
